Sintren, The Magical Dance

Sintren
is a traditional Javanese dance, especially in Cirebon Regency. The dance is
well known in the north coast of West Java and Central Java, such as in
Indramayu, Cirebon, Majalengka, Jatibarang, Brebes, Pemalang, Banyumas, and
Pekalongan regency. Sintren also known as Lais which known as dances with
mystical or magical love old story comes from the girl name Sulasih with the
man name Sulandono.
Sulandono
as the son of Ki Baurekso and Rantamsari marriage. Sulandono Sulasih making
love with a daughter from the Kalisalak village, but the relationship did not
get the blessing of Ki Baurekso, eventually Sulandono go meditate and Sulasih
chose to be a dancer. Despite a meeting between the two is still going on through
the supernatural.
The
meeting was arranged by the Rantamsari who enter the spirit to the body
Sulasih, at that time also Sulandono being imprisoned spirits summoned by his
mother to meet Sulasih and there was a meeting between Sulasih and Sulandono.
Since
then all the performances are held Sintren angel spirit dancers must be entered
by the handler, with a note that it was done when the dancer is still in a
state of holy (virgin). Sintren played a girl who is holy, assisted by the handler
to the accompaniment. In the development of dance culture Sintren as
entertainment, and comes with a companion dancer and Bodor (comedy).
